Bill Farrand has worked extensively in terrestrial remote sensing as well as in the field of planetary science. Bill is an expert in the field of “hyperspectral” remote sensing (alternatively known as “imaging spectroscopy”). Bill is working at SSI on several projects. These include working as a participating scientist on NASA's Mars Exploration Rover (MER) mission. Bill is also working on several NASA Mars Data Analysis Program (MDAP) investigations that involve various aspects of Mars surface science including re-analysis of Imager for Mars Pathfinder data, an investigation of unusual landforms and terrains on the northern plains of Mars and an investigation of the layered terrains in the Mawrth Vallis region. He is also involved with projects to develop new processing techniques for the analysis of hyperspectral image data.
