Joe is a Senior Research Scientist at SSI and the Chair of the Center for Space Plasma Physics. He has experience in theoretical, computational, and experimental physics. He was trained in astronomy and mathematics at the University of Michigan and in plasma physics at the University of Iowa, and then he spent 30 years at Los Alamos National Laboratory. His current research interests are (1) the structure of the solar wind and the solar origins of that structure, (2) solar-wind/magnetosphere coupling, (3) the dynamics of the magnetosphere, and (4) systems science. His SSI research is conducted in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
