Alicia Vaughan

Affiliate Research Scientist
Flagstaff, AZ
Alicia is a Co-Investigator on the Mastcam-Z instrument investigation on the Perseverance rover. She is a geologist with research interests in spectral analysis of geologic materials. She has worked extensively in Mars landed operations for both the science and engineering teams starting on the Mars Exploration Rovers (MER), Spirit and Opportunity. After years at both the Jet Propulsion Lab and the USGS Astrogeology Science Center dedicated to MER operations and geologic studies, she set out for experience in public education. She became a classroom teacher of earth science and robotics at a local school in Flagstaff, AZ. She is grateful for that experience and all she learned about education, however, excitement about the Mars 2020 mission meant she couldn't stay away forever, and she joined the Mastcam-Z team in 2020, happy to return to Mars exploration! She co-leads the multispectral working group for the Mastcam-Z team, and is heavily involved in science operations and research efforts with the Perseverance science team.
